New/old trumpeter

Hi all..

I just joined trumpetmaster. I played trumpet many years as a young man, but fell out of the disciplined world of practice and no longer played. Now I am retired and am going to start all over again. I see many advantages to this new beginning. All the bad habits I once had can easily be corrected.

I am eager to begin and look forward to reading your many good tips.

Re: New/old trumpeter

Yes, welcome back to the trumpet. If you really want to relearn with good habits, you should find a good teacher.

Re: New/old trumpeter

Welcome Prev and best of luck to you. I've been on the comeback trail for 2 years and have found a teacher to be very valuable in directing my study and focusing my exercises and practice. If you show up with some ability and not too many bad habits a teacher's often delighted to have a student that doesn't require how-to-tie-your-shoes training. -Ed

Re: New/old trumpeter

Welcome to TM, Prev -
I, also, am one of the many returning players here. I have only been at it a couple of months after nearly 30 years off. All of us have re-discovered the passion of mastering something that is difficult, maddening, annoying, frustrating, and bothersome to the neighbors - but find that it is all worth it the first time we can play the Arban's Characteristic study #1 with more right notes than wrong ones.

We all hope that you enjoy your comeback effort.

Re: New/old trumpeter

Man you are in the same boat I am. What is incredible is all of the learning tools and aids that are available that did not exist when I first started. I am having a great time.
Invest in a good horn. I did. Puchased a Yamaha 8310 bobby shew. I love it. Good luck and stay focused.

Re: New/old trumpeter

Welcome back to the horn and to Trumpet Master... I also am retired and like you a comeback player (after a 51 year layoff). Having a great time; it is better now than ever. Good luck. Do you still have your old horn or did you buy a different one?
