New user with old Chicago Benge

Hi all,

My name is Jon and I'm in So. Calif. I'm a 60 year old comeback player that stopped playing in 1967 when I was in college! I have Chicago Benge #581 that originally belonged to Howard Davis of the NBC-Chicago Orchestra, Al Morgan Orchestra, leader of the Great Lakes Naval Station Band in WWII, etc. I've been lucky enough to talk to his former band mates, friends and daughter and even have recordings of him playing my trumpet in the late 1940s.

I really like reading the different forums and hearing about peoples experiences.

Take care, Jon

Re: New user with old Chicago Benge

Welcome Jon!

Will look forward to hearing from you. And way to go resuming playing. You'll find lots of great folk here.

I'd not played for 25 years and began last February.

My teacher had Burbank Benges. Gosh he sounded so good. It was he of course, and not the horn. But its tough to separate the two, and I'm at the age where nostalgia is sweet. His name is Walter Laursen, in Pasadena.

Do me (us) a favor and post some pics of your Benge. I love 'em. I just picked up a '46 and I thought mine was old.

Happy Practicing,

Richard Oliver
