![]() ![]() | Re: pat q from south florida Semper Fi Patq!!!!! Thank you for your service. Enjoy your stay here, and don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions, or share anything with us! I used a Parduba on my original King Flair for quite a while. It was a good mouthpiece for me. A member here, NickD is an assymetric mouthpiece user. He plays from the top to the bottom of the trumpet range. Drop him a line about acclimation to it. -cw-

![]() | Re: pat q from south florida Hey Pat: Welcome on board. I'm also a South Floridian. I live in Broward County and I'm just now getting back in to playing. If you hear of any good community bands in the area, please drop me a line. I'd like to get back to playing in a concert setting again. I picked up an assymetric as well. I also had limited success with lower register playing. I picked up a kanstul MF II (which is a Monette copy). I get a pretty nice tone in the lower register and the thing really opens up above high C. You can sometimes find those mouthpieces on e-bay, or you can contact Charles Hargett at Kanstul and he'll help you through the process of getting the right mouthpiece. I do business travel to Southern CA, so I had the luxury of trying several of the Kanstul mouthpieces prior to finding one that suits me the best. For everyday playing, I use a Schilke 14a4a. It's pretty popular and tends to give an edge in the upper register without saccrificing the lower register tone. The MF II gives me a few note advantage over my Schilke. Since mouthpiece selection is highly personal, I don't know if any of the above helps. You had asked about the differences between a pro horn, etc. I saw a link, through other postings on this site, that I thought was informative in that regard. Here it is: http://www.dallasmusic.org/gearhead/. That might address some of your questions. Best of luck to you, Mike |
