Switzerland goes Jazz

Hi there everybody

I'm 20 years old, from Switzerland and I like this site.
It's cool to read and talk to all jazz-trumpet-fanatics here :)

i play trumpet for over 10 years now... and i like it ever since!
(my english... :))

i play every year at the jazzaar-festival in switzerland...
it's very very cool, we have always great trumpet players, like

wayne bergeron
randy brecker
frank green
earl gardner
steve reid
steven bernstein
willie murillo
barrie lee hall jr

so it's really awesome to sit next to this cats and play with the same stand

for more information, just ask me... or
www.jazzaar.ch

Re: Switzerland goes Jazz

Simon,

Welcome. You live in a beautiful country. Full of very friendly people.
I have a good swiss friend by the name of Matthias Merki. He invites me out every year and one of these days I'm going to take him up on it.

Welcome to TM. It's great to have you here.

I just had to laugh at this. I did a project with my first grader earlier this year on family heritage (my Wife did this with our older son last year based on her Swedish background, so I knew the drill). Since my family is from Switzerland, we started doing some research.

The first question on the sheet was, “Where is your family originally from?” Easy, Switzerland. The second question was, “What language do they speak there?” Easy, Swiss! Come on, bring on the hard questions!!!!

With a little research I quickly learned that there are four prominent languages in Switzerland: German (63.7%), French (19.2%), Italian (7.6%), Romansch (0.6%). Yep, that’s right, no “Swiss”! Boy, did I feel dumb – I knew literally nothing about my heritage.

I’m sure that’s why SwissTrumpet commented that “Swiss is a very difficult language!”

Anyway, Welcome SwissTrumpet! Like Rogerio, I also know Matthias Merki (we played a gig together recently here in Phoenix).

Enjoy your stay!

I guess it would be like someone asking me if I speak "hispanic"...

Usually they just say, "speak Brazilian for me!"

John, don't feel bad my friend... I was in the dark too about the Swiss thing until I made friends with a Swiss.

Considering all the fighting we do all over the world we should be better educated as American's.
