Well here we go!

Hello Trumpetmaster community,

My name is James, been playing trumpet for 23 years. I currently live in Arizona where I teach elementary and middle school band. I never had much of a jazz education so that's really one area I don't know much about. I enjoy playing classical literature (living out of my Orchestral Exerpts books right now). Looking forward to great info on TptMaster.
Equipment:
1965 Conn Connstellation 38B
Bach Strad Eb (189) with 229 Bell
Schilke P5-4MA
1929 Olds Military Trumpet
4 homemade custom valveless trumpets (used for horseshows)
1960's era Getzen slide trumpet
Mouthpieces: Monette (all are PRANA) B2S3, B4LDS1, AP5L (piccolo), E2S3, B6

Re: Well here we go!

Welcome. Some of my best memories and lasting friendships are with my old band mates and teachers. Let me know if you want me to take that '29 Olds off your hands!

That's a great profession - as long as you use something besides the "think system". In fact, the reason that I have come back to playing after a 30 year layoff is that a band teacher came to my grandson's elementary school last spring to encourage the kids to sign up for band when they transitioned to middle school this year. My grandson signed up for trumpet and I decided to help him get a headstart by dragging out my old Olds Ambassador cornet and my Selmer Invicta trumpet to show him. He was able to blow a few notes and so we started working on his technique. I gave him the Olds cornet to practice with during the summer since it seemed easier for him to hold and to blow than a trumpet. When school started, he took it to band class and asked the director if he could play it since it was a "family treasure" given to him by his grandfather. Rather than insisting on strict adherence to the guidelines which stated that they needed to have a new trumpet (pick from the list - Bach, Eastman or Yamaha), the director told him that the Olds was a very fine instrument and that he should value it and take care of it. She even had him show it around the band class as an example of a "fine vintage instrument". The other kids were duly impressed. So, he is perfectly happy with it and if he drops it, his folks are not out a grand for a new lamp base. A music teacher can be a powerful influence.

Good luck and welcome.

Re: Well here we go!

I am seriously thinking of selling it so I can get a good C trumpet.
