Yet another new guy

A friend on another board turned me on to this site. On that board (totally unrelated to music or instruments) he announced that he'd won a bid for a trumpet on eBay. So we got to talking (so to speak). Off and on I had been thinking about picking up a trumpet. I played a baritone and a valve trombone years ago (decades in fact). So, that's where it stands right now. Thinking about buying a trumpet and starting from the beginning, learning notes, practicing scales, learning the treble clef.

So, how's that for a newbie? I'm looking for an intermediate level horn. I'll let you guys know how it's going.

By the way, though I've only taken the briefest look at the site, I like what I see.

I didn't want to get that ring around my lips from practicing the trumpet, because I thought the girls wouldn't like me. So I never practiced.- Wynton Marsalis

Welcome, Rasputin. I don't think that you are starting from scratch - except for reading treble clef notes. I played Baritone years ago and it did not take me long at all to adapt to playing the trumpet. In fact, I played them both for a period of time until I realized that the girls were more attracted to trumpet players so I focused on that (It didn't help much with the girls but I guess there were other factors as well). You should do well on the trumpet so grab one (or two or three...) and start playing. It's fun.

BTW, Don't give up on this site the first time you encounter some name-calling. There are still lots of good things here. It sometimes just takes a little digging.

Again, welcome.

Re: Yet another new guy

As it turns out, I managed to win a bid on eBay, not really trying that hard. Ended up with a Bach TR300 for $229. Actually, my first ever eBay purchase. So, gotta' pick up a beginner's book and get started. Thanks for the feedback folks. Don't know about finding a teacher. We'll see. Good advice no doubt.
