All Shook Up

Mr. Kadleck,

Just got a call to play All Shook Up, do you have any experience with this particular show, or know what the book is like?

Thank you for your time!

Re: All Shook Up

Hi -

I'm afraid I don't know the show at all. On broadway it used 3 trumpets, but that's about all I know.

Anyone out there play this?

Tony

Re: All Shook Up

Hey Brass machine19,

Ive played the show before with a reduced orchestra. And as with almost all those reductions, be ready for a good workout. Lots of playing. Great charts though... High G's are scattered about but mainly alot of rock horn licks. Have fun and hope they are using a couple trumpets..

Re: All Shook Up

I heard John Eckert play this last summer, it is basically an Elvis review, I think the trumpet parts are fairly taxing with lots of high notes. Glad it was him playing and not me, get your high F and G's ready!

Re: All Shook Up

Just got back from playing w/ Joe G. in western PA. He's a terrific guy & has tons of great stories to tell. Sure made the 6-hour ride there & back much more bearable.

He said range-wise the show has some F's and an F#. Except for a section of the overture and one tune, it's a fairly easy blow. A majority of the tunes are pretty short with a decent amount of rest time between tunes.

Like any show, intelligent thinking and planning ahead and playing the trumpet musically will help you get thru the rough spots with relative ease. And if you've got a good 2nd trumpet, it never hurts to pass some of the Lead parts to them. Besides giving you some relief, it gives them experience in the hot seat.

have fun with the show!
