clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute Are there any shows that call for it? I got one a while ago (impulse buy, it was sitting on a shelf used for $20) and I love it, but I've never seen any music that uses it. I figure it has to be called for some time or another or else it wouldn't exist. It has such a cool and distinctive sound, I wish I had more opportunity to play on it.

Re: clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute You'll also find use for it in a lot of old dance band music - you can substitute it for cup on a lot of solo lines. Fun!

Re: clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute Yes, many shows call for the solotone mute. For the most part they are shows that are based in the 1920's-1940's when solotones were the norm in music. One of the drawbacks is the intonation. Many are very difficult to play in tune. Tony

Re: clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute The musical "42nd Street" uses a solotone. It is good that you have it. I had to borrow one. The mute I ordered off of the internet showed up two weeks too late. For the info 42nd street uses, solotone, straight, cup, harmon, and plunger. We finished "The secret Garden" tonight and it was tame using, straight, cup, harmon.

Re: clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute Damn, a musical theater company in SF just did Seussical last year, now I wish I could have been in the pit.

Re: clear-tone mute / solo-tone mute I just finished a run of Miss Saigon. That has a couple of passages for solotone, and I used a Walt Johnson Gatsby mute. It plays really nicely in tune and has a good even tone across all registers. I ordered it directly from Walt's site and it was here (Australia) within two weeks. Cheers, Adrian
