Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

I missed the concert but was there for the clinic with the rest of my posse from Baltimore. We were right on the front row. I thought Tony"s insights were great. He seems to be a great guy too. I also had a great time hanging out with Raga Vega he was super cool. All and all it was a real good day.

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

Thanks guys. That's nice to hear!

Kevin - I'm not sure who the regular folks in Alan Baylock's tpt. section are, but you four guys were truly inspirational last night. It was one of the best sections I'd heard in a long, long time. Great pitch & sound, top notch soloists, sizzling lead playing... it was all there.

I'm always hearing, "NY this, NY that...", and though I like being in NY, I'd put that band up against anyone in NY right now. Exceptional!!

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

There are players outside of NYC? Eeek gads!

I'm sure that was a burnin' section... DC is full of amazing players.

Sorry I missed that hang!

Best,

T

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

had a blast..Tony, you outdid yourself again..
I only made one clinic there, it was John Blount's in the morning... can anyone post some writings on what Tony and Ray had to say?
I was impressed with the way John not only would tell you about the exercises and drills he's developed, but he was able to demonstrate how they sound, and the proper way to do them......not everyone can do that, as we all know from reading these forums.. ( I'll tell you all day how to play, but, ummmm, I really can't do it for ya right now.... heh heh...). It's not an easy thing to arpeggiate from low to double C and back down that early, and the flexibility demonstrations were outstanding....

Who can name the trpt players in the Baylock Band?... nowhere was anything posted about personnel..

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

Thanks again Tony. Those words mean a lot coming from you!

I’ve known Nick for years, but it was actually the first time we got to play together – great job! Next on the list Nick is a day of golfing!

Thanks to Uncle Sam, I guess Washington DC has the largest collection of ‘full time’ big band players anymore, plus with the military retirees in the area it’s not hard to put a great big band together – of course there are great players outside the military here as well.

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

The day was great and the concert was a perfect ending to the day. I have heard Alans Band several times and have had the privledge to sit in with them, they are some of the best in the business. From Nick on lead to the soloists, this was a strong section of players.

You guys sounded great and Tony K. did a masterful job.

Re: Maryland Trumpet Day w/ Kadleck

I'll second or third all of that! And I'd like to call out the trumpet solos by the big guy -- is that Tim Stanley? I was VERY impressed.
