Mazzepa

Is the the current Mazzepa your student?
Mazzepa is the bugle-tooting stripper in Gypsy
My student trumpet player/stripper won a "Tony" for "Jerome Robbins Broadway"
I just heard the current Mazzepa, her chops were down

Wilmer -

Yes, I did give a lesson to her.

I think her "concept" is that if she's plays too well the skit won't be as funny. Rest assured, the skit IS funny!

Re: Mazzepa

Gypsy was the first musical I ever played for!

It was only a high school production, but a lot of great memories. I had to play the trumpet part for Mazeppa because she couldn't play the trumpet for the life of her. It was really fun to disregard everything I was taught and play that badly!

Re: Mazzepa

Half the fun for us in the current production is hearing Mazzepa's "interpretation" each night!

Re: Mazzepa

Was in NYC a week ago and caught the matinee of Gypsy.
Gotta say that the orchestra was tight, and you guys were sensational.
It was good to see a section of "adults" rather than right out of UNT lab band.
