Re: More oddball mute markings

The Nielsen 6th has a mute marking in the trombone parts that instructs the second trombone to insert the mute into the first trombone's bell while playing.

That involves quite a lot of trust on the first player's part... especially if the 2nd player is plotting a coup d'état!

In Nielsen's 7th the mute changes are reversed.

Nielsen must not have known very much about trombone players

Re: More oddball mute markings

I'm finishing up the first stop/city on the new US tour of Chicago tonight. It has been a gas. Fun cast. Here's my "go to hell Kitty"...

(damn...forgot to take off my "big note song book glasses". ha.)

Here's another shot of some of the band:

We started the run with veteran drummer Eddie Shea...this is him with the replacement/tour drummer, Lee Appleman (another great guy).

...and conductor, Don York:

I've got some more pics I took last night..just haven't downloaded them yet. Anyway...fun stuff. I'll miss it. We've had a great time!!!

Re: More oddball mute markings

Hey, Brad,

Sounds like a fun group! Please send my best regards to Don York. We were in comp class together back in the 60's, and he later came down to my area (South Florida) to conduct Beauty and the Beast, I think. A very cool and talented guy.

All the best, and try to keep your eyes on the charts!

Re: More oddball mute markings

To be totally clear... I am "not" on the tour, but played on the first city stop "of" the new tour (in Charlotte NC). The only traveling musicians with this one are 2 keyboard players, drummer and conductor. They pick up the rest at each stop. We did 10 shows...plus worked with the new cast part of one day to get them geared up/work out the kinks.

I'm just a guy in a town, much like many other guys/gals in various towns across the country, who is fortunate enough to get to do these types of things when they come through.

Chas...will definitely tell Ron you said hello. He is a special kind of player, for sure.
