Re: A Repair/Maintenance sub-forum??

i have all you need to know right here:

buy a cleaning kit at your local music store...use it

if your valves stick, oil them

don't drop your horn...if you do, take it to a professional repairman

Re: A Repair/Maintenance sub-forum??

I'd welcome such a forum, although I'm hardly qualified to contribute any hard-core repair tips. There are bound to be a lot of cleaning/adjustment tips floating around out there, things an average owner could do without risk to the horn. My own repair knowledge is just from a few books and some hard knocks - loosening stuck slides and valves, cleaning, disassembling valves and replacing springs, felts, and corks, diagnosing problems, reassembly and lubrication to better prevent problems in the future, minor soldering. I have, and use, a very small rawhide hammer, and I have a small set of dent rods and balls, yet find myself lacking same when it comes to actually using them on my instruments. Maybe I need to buy a beater and work on some kinks.

Isn't it easier to just ask Oldlou, and skip all of the questionable advice on do-it-yourself repairs?

By all means. I'd have plenty to contribute to it . . . . both question and answer wise.

That would certainly give consistant, reliable, repeatable, answers.
