| Most Lyrical Jazzer Who, in your opinion do you find to be the most melodic improvisor, regardless of tempo or style? For me, that would be Art Farmer.............. |

| Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer Clifford Brown with Strings is one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard. I know there are many great players out there, and I aprreciate them, but Brownie was certainly smooth when he wanted to be. |

| Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer Miles played some pretty heavy melodies...if we are talking about more linear stuff there are many. I just pulled out an old transcription book from my Berklee days...Tom Harrell, Kenny Dorham, Pops, Bix,Freddie,Nat Adderly, CLARK TERRY,Joe Newman, Lee Morgan (Blue Train solo!), Freddie Webster... Also- for me, I hear alot of deep melodic lines and ideas coming out of Kenny Wheeler and Booker Little... to name a few! Art too, I heard him a bunch when I lived in Austria and he was always searching and studying, never content with just playing what-ever... |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer I remember the first time I heard Lee's Blue Train solo. I was just pulling into my driveway when it started on the radio. I put the car into park and just sat there in awe. I had never heard something so incredible. I think I waited through 2 or 3 more songs before the host announced who it was (before I could identify Lee's sound.) |

When were you attending Berklee? I was there from 76-80. I studied with Lou Mucci, Jeff Stout and Wayne Naus! It was a wonderful institution to study at! | |

![]() ![]() | Re: Most Lyrical Jazzer Louis, Miles, Bix, Clifford, CT, Sweets Edison, Tom Harrell, Art Farmer, Chet Baker, Jack Sheldon, for Trumpet for sure. That's a tiny start! I do love Zoot Sims, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges, Bird, Sonny Stitt, John Coltrane etc for sax! How about Bill Evans, Hank Jones, Keith Jarrett and Ahmad Jamal? Now we're talking! Heck, I find Elvin Jones extremely lyrical. Why stop at just trumpets ;) |
