![]() | I think this would be a good place for folks to share their contest entries for the Bach/Dillon's contest if they so choose. Mine will be on the way shortly.

| New Friend | Good idea! Here is mine! My dream trumpet would be a horn that is decidedly open in feel with excellent targets on each note. Mine would be a horn that could easily push through a big band with energy but also be able to darken up and play small group jazz and orchestral excerpts. This would also have to be an efficient horn but have a big bell. Focused sound but race-car performance to give me the feedback I need via resonance while at the same time projecting that same energy out into a room. I would start with the #50 lead-pipe and a reverse tuning slide configuration for that open feel. A single radius tuning slide would provide additional openness while the modular weighted trim kit would tighten up the slotting and focus the sound a bit more with the heavier setup. Standard slides with no mechanical levers to deaden up the horn, I would have only minimal bracing to allow for optimal resonance. I would have brass interior on all the slides for a more natural feel while maintaining my finish of choice on the exterior. The bell would be a rose-brass bell with large tapers and a 5" plus diameter. The entire horn would be 24K gold plated with a Saddle on 1st valve and circular rings on the 3rd valve slide and lead-pipe. The bore of the horn would be on the larger side, close to 0.468 if possible. Standard spit valves. |

![]() | Re: Contest Entries Here is mine, as promised. Enjoy I love the stock Bach Stradivarius that I own, but I would like to do a few things to it that I think would make it play a little better and look a lot nicer. The Bach Strad I own is a standard horn, silver plated, 37 bell and the standard 25 leadpipe. To improve my baby, I would first take off the bell and replace it with a gold brass 37 bell, because I like the sound of gold brass better. Next, I would replace my stock 25 leadpipe with a new #7 leadpipe to darken the horn’s sound a bit. I would also get a fully rounded Bach tuning slide to go with the new #7 leadpipe. With that done, I would put some heavy valve caps on the horn to improve the slotting and darken the tone even more. Finally, I’d put Conn Vintage One finger rings on the horn, because I like the look of all three finger rings being rings instead of Bach’s thumb hook and the pinky finger rest up near the valves. With all that done, I would gold plate my beauty and make her look beautiful. I can see my beautiful new baby now! What a work of art!

![]() | Re: Contest Entries My dream trumpet would be more or less an all-purpose instrument for any occasion. Standard weight L bore C valve block with Gold Bb slides, ML bore #43 Bb leadpipe (that's right, dual bore), #72 standard bell, heavy bottom valve caps. Bell-tuned, interchangeable leadpipes. Extras Silver C slides L bore #43C pipe #238 standard weight bell ML bore #7 pipe #65 heavyweight bell #43 sterling bell hmm ... never heard of the #50. It's not in the Bach Strad parts catalog either. What are its characteristics compared to the #25 and the #43 in feel and sound quality?

![]() | My Dream Trumpet I have a silver trumpet. His name is Silver Skeeter. You can also call him Skeeter for short. My trumpet is a boy. Skeeter’s piston valve is encased with valve oil so it doesn’t get stuck with the tube that holds it. The insides of Skeeter’s tuning slides are covered in Vaseline. That is so that the tuning slides move easily in the tubes that encase them, but not too quickly. He is slightly tarnished, but I still love him very much. Skeeter also dons a few colorful ribbons on him. Skeeter wears a black leather strap around the three piston valve casings. He sports a Bach 7c mouthpiece. There is also another mouthpiece: the Bach 3c, but I seldom use it. His house is a case that is from ProTec. A strait mute can also be slipped into his flared bell. Skeeter also has a cloth that I can use to wipe him with and ensure that he does not tarnish or get dirty anymore. If I could have any trumpet, I would want a red trumpet. My favorite is red, so that is why I would want a red trumpet. Also, red trumpets look pretty cool to me. 1.) Eric Ni 2.) eric_c_ni@hotmail.com 3.) hooplagoo 4.) 732-566-xxxx 5.) ![]() | Re: Contest Entries Here is my entry: My dream trumpet would something that would have the power to carry a big band or orchestra and still have the finesse, agility, and control to play any type of music the imagination can create. So here is what I think would be this Ferrari of trumpets using Conn-Selmer parts would be. Bell: Standard weight Bach 72 bell with a French Bead for big full tone with broadness and projection Leadpipe: Bach #6 for control (be careful not to over blow, play with efficiency) Body/valves: a lightweight Medium Large bore Conn Vintage One valve block with the variable weight bottom caps. Tuning Slides: Two would be included. A single radius braceless Sterling silver slide and bronze semi-round braced slide. Both would be the dual bore Vindabona type. Trim items: 1st and 3rd valve slide rings, leadpipe pinky hook. The entire thing would be finished in polished Gold plating for years of durability and beauty. The finger buttons would have Tigers Eye inlays. It would all come in a beautiful leather case with room for various mouthpieces, both tuning slides, and other small accessories. This is what I think could be my dream trumpet! |

| Forte User | Re: Contest Entries I'll post my entry after the July 1st deadline - I don't want to have anyone piggyback off of my ideas. Granted, they aren't terribly original, but I believe that if my ideas were incorporated into a trumpet, it would make for one heck of a trumpet.

| New Friend | Re: Contest Entries The #50 is a conn part that comes as an option on their vintage 1 horns. I assumed that all bach owned companies were fair game for the horn, and since they are right on the website, I took a gander at the parts. The #50 is the most "free blowing" leadpipe they make, and I figired i'd like it! |
