![]() | My Gal Bach CONTEST ENTRY My gal Bach, serial number 19215, was born in 1959 in Mt. Vernon. Somebody else is serial number 18860, made on July 27, while serial number 19222 appeared on September 21, 1959. My Bach was lacquered either on September 20, 1959 in the afternoon, or on September 21, 1959 in the morning. We celebrate her birthdays on September 20th. Our fiftieth anniversary party will be September 20, 2009. I wish that my father could be there. He sat on my old Holton Cornet and replaced him with Bach early in my senior year at San Mateo High School (class of 1960). She and I played “Trumpet Voluntary” at commencement after earning the Senior Music Award together. Susie Stout was jealous. Bach followed me across North America from California to Alaska, Oklahoma, and Texas, and back to the San Luis Obispo County Band in California. We finally found our home in the mountains of Cedar City, where we were welcomed into the Orchestra of Southern Utah in 1989. We have shared the lead in symphonies, brass bands, and big bands. We never were professionals, just true lovers. I coddled her with three rebuilds and paint jobs, but by 2007 she was worn thin and losing her warmth. We decided to risk more cosmetic surgery, so I sent her to Anderson’s Silver Plating. She came back with silver skin, a golden bell, and a youthful sound. Even her mouthpiece feels better when we kiss. And Corrie Lynne Player loves both of us. REQUIRED INFORMATION I am Gary F. Player. My email address is <gfplayer@bresnan.net> My Screen Name is GFPLAYER. My daytime telephone is 435 867 5637. My mailing address is 1671 West 546 South, Cedar City, Utah 84720. My mother's Maiden Name is the same as that of my uncle, the inventor of television. I am a bit of a smart aleck (substitute your favorite synonym for donkey), but I think that I will like getting to know the rest of you similar "leaders of the band."
