Well, I must admit that it's nice not having the added expense.. We're still working on eliminating the need for slide grease, but alas, from Egger to Naumann, all the designs still have movable parts..

PSST! the secret is teflon coating the slides - never need grease again. In 300 years it could end up being historically correct...............

Re: Valve oil

I have another solution...instead tuning the trumpet to the tuner, violins or the organ, probably the tuning process should start the other way around - tuning everything to the trumpet - all trumpeters have waited for ages the world to turn around them

Nate,

Tsk, tsk, not beeswax? I've also heard that due to the lubricating properties of nuts that squirrel excrement was popular during the period.

I'm sure that somebody at Oxford is half finished with the dissertation.

Trust me,

yup. The same stuff that works in frying pans is perfectly suitable for tuning slide, nat bows........... Some work has to be done on the diameter of the tubing because a teflon coating is not super thin. No grease necessary ever again.

I wouldn't do this with a valved trumpet because some could scratch off and find its way into the valves.......................

Here is a company in the states that should be able to handle this:

Teflon Coating, Teflon Nonstick Coating, Teflon Industrial Coating- OPI Inc
