Can you describe how the Courtois Evolution II plays? With that bell over bell design and the heavy looking bracing it looks like it might play kinda dark.

Gregory's coming over today to play some horns. I'll ask him to describe it for you when he gets here. Thanks.

I also have a silver Evo II in stock. Is has a beautiful tone, full overtone series, great trumpet sound, just more power...certainly not dark. Gregory's is in satin lacquer.

Re: WTS - 4 Trumpets from NY artist Greg Rivkin

Ok I got the Evo II back from Gregory. It has a big sound with a full overtone series. It's not too dark at all, nothing close to a Monette.

A lot of people think heavy means dark because of Monette, but heavy usually means more sound output. More sound energy is projected through the horn and out the bell, rather than dissipating through thinner tubing and less bracing. Harrelson and Taylor apply the same principles, yet their horns sound nothing like Monettes. But this is for another thread...

This Evo II has a beautiful trumpet sound and is versatile enough for Classical or Jazz, which is why Gregory plays it. He does both. The valve action is smooth and fast. The sound has a lot of depth to it. I think it's a fantastic horn. In fact, i'm so impressed with the used Courtois I've played that I'm going to start carrying Courtois horns as soon as I can fill out their paperwork. There may be some begging involved as well...

It's a heavier horn than a standard Bach for sure, but it gives you a fuller sound with less effort and has better valves. And if you want even more sound output, get a weighted mouthpiece sleeve. Courtois used to have them. I don't know about now. They neighbors heard me when I played the silver Evo II with the mouthpiece booster...never played a bigger low G before in my life.

Sound, versatility, excellent response...this horn is a no-brainer. If you are a serious buyer, email me and I'll take care of you. Thanks!

How does the EVO compare to a Bach 37 or 43?

Re: WTS - 4 Trumpets from NY artist Greg Rivkin

The Evo II has a freer upper register than Bachs. It's heavier and has more projection and depth of sound. The valves are really nice. The newer Bachs seems to have a little "tinny" sound to them compared to the older ones. The Evo II has none of that, just a big sound. Greg plays sweet Jazz and Classical on it with a big mouthpiece. I put in a lead piece and it screams.

I think it's a great all-around horn. I personally would play Courtois over Bach any day of the week, and I played my Bach 37 for over 25 years. Courtois has less variation from horn to horn, and better overall quality. Of course, I don't have to play in an orchestra where everyone else is playing a Bach. (In fact, I'm playing a silver Evo II on my gig tonight.)

So basically you get a bigger sound, more depth, more projection, and a significantly freer upper register with the Evo II compared with Bachs in general. (Greg used to play a Bach 72. He switched to this Evo II. That should tell you something.)

Re: WTS - 4 Trumpets from NY artist Greg Rivkin

Sounds like a great horn. With my budget right now, I will prob look at something like a Yahama horn, 8310 or 8335 depending.
