![]() | WTB: Trumpet microphone for ~80$? I'm looking for a trumpet specific mic I could plug into a guitar amp in the price range of about 60-90$. I would love to be able to use my distortion pedal as well in case that little bit of info matters. Any thoughts? =D |

![]() | Re: Trumpet microphone for ~80$? I was under the impression that the mute from the Yamaha Silent Brass system may be able to do this: if so, the mute/mic assembly is about $72 new.... |

![]() | Re: WTB: Trumpet microphone for ~80$? I work as a sound designer in my "day job." Mics are generally "you get what you pay for" items. The Yamaha silent brass is great for what it does... but it is not for performance OR recording. Unless you specifically want a distorted, fuzzy, hissy sound texture. Finding a mic that you attach to your horn is not horribly expensive, but you won't get anything decent for your price range. Look at the DPA mics (for clip on bell types). There are others, but DPA comes to mind first, and expect to spend at least $300 for a good one (not including the preamp - and the mic-pre IS crucial). If you're looking for stand mounted mics your options are much greater. You can get some good deals with Cascade mics, but I still like the old Electro Voice RE20 for horns. But it will run around $500. If your plugging into pedal effects and guitar cabinets, try going with a Shure SM57 (not the SM58) for around $90. Cheap, rugged, and has been abused in front of countless guitar cabinets and drums sets for generations.
